Well, since I have last blogged, I have given my graduate recital, graduated from NYU, moved from the Lower East Side of Manhattan up to Harlem, and something else exciting has happened (but I am not allowed to announce it yet...stay tuned!!)
Lately, I have been thinking a lot about my future, and what path I should be heading down. After our talent showcase in April, I had a couple of auditions. I auditioned for the national touring company of 'Les Miserables,' which went well. In July, I auditioned for a children's show, and went to Chicago with a friend, where I auditioned for NBC's 'The Voice' (p.s. if you haven't been to Chicago, you HAVE to go...it is a great city!) The day before I left for Chicago, I got a call from a casting agency to come in and audition for Broadway's 'Phantom of the Opera,' which was really exciting. Although nothing came as a result of these auditions, I enjoyed each and every opportunity. After the 'Phantom' audition, I realized something. For the past twenty years, I have never had a break from school...until now. Now, that I am done with school, I am working a lot, and realizing what it means to be...what do they say...a "starving artist." If you ask me, this term is rather harsh and can be deceiving. Am I starving? No. Do I wish to be a successful artist? Yes. For right now, I have decided to take a break from auditioning. Why? So I can discover myself, outside of the confines of an educational institution. For me, I have to reset my mind. Studying vocal performance for the past six years made me realize something...I love to sing, and that is why I do it. Because I was working to obtain a degree in singing, it became more like work...and I lost the joy I used to experience. So, once I fully rediscover my LOVE for singing, auditions will commence.
NYC is the place to be...so much life, so many opportunities, and so much to discover (both about the city and myself).
Well, that is all for now. I would really like to hear what YOU think.
'Til next time...
